If an adult tooth (permanent tooth) is knocked out, time is critical. Quick action can save the tooth.
- Find the tooth, and hold it by the crown (the top part), not the root.
- If the tooth is dirty, rinse it gently with milk or saline. Avoid scrubbing or touching the root.
- Try to reinsert the tooth into the socket immediately, if possible, and hold it in place by having your child bite down gently on a cloth.
- If you can’t reinsert it, place the tooth in a cup of milk, or your child’s saliva. Avoid water.
- Seek emergency dental care right away - ideally within 30 minutes. The faster we act, the better the chance of saving the tooth.
